I love unicorns. As a child, my mother never allowed us to have unicorn toys because she thought they were not Christian enough. She cut all the horns off my unicorns – it’s heartbreaking to see this majestic creature being mangled and reduced to a common horse or pony. At least, that’s how I felt as a child.
Now that I am grown-up, no one can cut the horns off my unicorns anymore. So it’s safe for Comet to join our household!
Comet, the unicorn, is coming!
Comet, the unicorn, is a crochet-along project that launches on 21 November 2018 with the first of four parts to create your own beautiful unicorn. Each week, a new part of the pattern is released.
This crochet-along or CAL is hosted by Hooked on Sunshine, a proudly South African crochet community that has brought you popular patterns like the Briar Rose and Hollypops blankets, Orbit the Dragon, and many more free patterns.
Comet’s designer, Jessica van In from
Comet’s unique body shape and beautiful hair makes this a great project for intermediate crocheters. There are some challenging techniques involved in making her, including using magic rings/circles, crocheting in the round, using various types of stitch markers, and more.
But that doesn’t mean that beginners can’t sign up for this project. The designer created a Facebook group where you can ask questions about the pattern and ensure you’re on the right track. It’s good to challenge yourself with your crochet projects to keep from getting bored.
Registration is open now!
Join the CAL by registering here: Comet the Unicorn CAL
Once you’ve registered, you will get a booklet with all the information about the yarn you need to buy, the tools you will need, and much more helpful information. Each week you will be able to download the new part of the pattern to complete your unicorn.
