The snowy owl is a large, white owl of the true owl family and they are native to Arctic regions in North America, Europe, and Asia. Snowy owls are often used in popular culture such as the Harry Potter books and movies where Harry has his own snowy owl called Hedwig. Snowy owls are also the national bird of Canada because this symbol is synonymous with this nation’s northern disposition – the true north, strong and free.
